Dr. Ray Scardina has been a child and adolescent psychiatrist in East Texas since 1985, currently with UT Health Sciences Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine.  He is certified in child and adolescent psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Wilson Renfroe, PsyD has worked as a psychologist in private practice in Tyler for over 29 years.   He recently switched gears to work on the business side of a company that provides services to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) individuals. He and his wife, Julee, have an adult ASD son and both have been very involved in the diagnosis and treatment of ASD in the East Texas area for some time. Dr. Renfroe has seen a great number of ASD children and adults, along with individuals with various emotional difficulties.

This dual presentation will focus on what Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is, both in childhood and how it manifests in adulthood, its typical impairments, course and outcome, and comorbidity through development. Emphasis will be placed on the practical understanding of the ASD condition and how things may change for the ASD individual as an adult. Presenters will review necessary services that are available in early and school years along with services needed for adulthood. Treatment and support options will be discussed along with positive and negative roles of the family. The need for preparation for this time in the ASD person's life and family will be a key component of this presentation.
